Transforming a Grade II Listed Neo-Tudor Home
Situated in the picturesque countryside of St Paul’s Walden, this stunning Grade II listed Neo-Tudor home presented a unique challenge. Due to its listed status, internal alterations were heavily restricted, making it difficult to achieve the large, open-plan kitchen our clients desired. The key challenge was to enhance the home’s functionality while maintaining its historic character and charm.

The Vision
Designing a bright, open kitchen with garden views
Our clients dreamed of a bright, open, and inviting kitchen that seamlessly blended modern comforts with the heritage of their home. They envisioned a space filled with natural light, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding gardens, and designed for both entertaining and everyday relaxation.
The Solution
A seamless extension that respects the historic architecture
To achieve this, we designed a carefully considered single-storey extension that respected the property’s unique architectural style. The design incorporated traditional materials and detailing to ensure a seamless connection between the old and new. Features such as a roof lantern introduced an abundance of natural light, while stone flooring and underfloor heating provided both practicality and a sympathetic nod to the home’s historic nature.
The Results
A stunning, functional kitchen filled with natural light
Our clients now enjoy a beautifully expansive kitchen that serves as the heart of their home. Whether entertaining guests or unwinding with a morning coffee, they can take in the stunning garden views through thoughtfully positioned glazing. The roof lantern floods the space with natural light, enhancing the airy and inviting atmosphere. The use of high-quality materials, including the stone flooring, ensures the extension complements the original property while providing all the modern comforts they desired.

Before & After
Visualising the transformation for smooth approval
To help our clients visualise the transformation, we created an exterior photo impression prior to finalising the design. This not only brought their vision to life but also streamlined the listed building consent process, ensuring a smooth approval. The finished result is further enhanced by the sleek patio, expertly fitted by our contractors, creating an inviting outdoor entertaining space that embraces the property’s stunning gardens. The superb kitchen, designed and installed by Kitchen Ergonomics, has become the true hub of the home. The roof lantern allows natural light to stream through, brightening the space even on the dullest of days.
