Our clients in Hitchin wanted to future-proof their home by adding more space for their growing family. The existing layout was beginning to feel tight, with not enough room for everyone to live, work, and relax comfortably. Rather than moving, they decided to invest in a double storey extension that would give them the extra space they needed, both upstairs and down.
The Brief
The vision was to build a two-storey extension that would enhance both the living space and the number of bedrooms. On the ground floor, the clients wanted a larger open-plan kitchen and living area, ideal for day-to-day family life and entertaining. Upstairs, the goal was to add an extra bedroom and a shower room to create more privacy and flexibility.
They also wanted the new extension to blend seamlessly with the existing home and feel like a natural continuation of the original layout, not just an add-on.
The Solution
We began by working closely with the clients to develop detailed plans, supported by 3D visualisations. This helped them picture how the space would flow and allowed them to make confident decisions early on.
The final design delivered a rear and side two-storey extension, expanding the ground floor into a bright, open-plan living/dining/kitchen area with views out to the garden. Upstairs, we added a new double bedroom and a sleek shower room, ideal for guests or older children needing their own space.
