Relaxed Permitted Development rights which allowed many homeowners the opportunity to extend their homes without planning consent until May 31 2019 have been extended indefinitely. Not only this, those rights have now been expanded to permit rear single storey extensions of up to eight meters deep on detached houses, and 6m for semi- detached and terraced homes [previously four and three meters respectively].
There are conditions, principally that proposed extensions must comply with the Neighbour Consultation Scheme, whilst extension height limits, garden size, and applications in Conservation areas may also be factors. The new PD rights are designed to speed up homeowner extension projects .
